Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5: what we know so far
CD Projekt Red picked a dramatic day to remind everyone it is not done with Night City. On October 20, 2026 — the same day Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 landed on Netflix — the studio announced Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5, officially titled the Edgerunners 2 Update. It is a free patch, it launches on October 22, 2026, and the full breakdown arrives a day earlier on REDstreams.
That is the short version. The longer version is that one of the best-supported games in the industry is getting another genuinely meaningful free update six years after launch. Update 2.0 was the big systems overhaul; Update 2.5 looks like the victory lap — new toys tied to the anime, plus build-defining systems changes for everyone.
The Edgerunners 2 connection
The timing is not a coincidence. CDPR waited for the release day of Edgerunners season 2 on Netflix to confirm the update, and the patch explicitly carries anime-related content. Season 1 of Edgerunners turned David Martinez into a folk hero and gave the game its biggest second wind back in 2022 — player counts spiked for months after the show aired.
We do not know exactly what the anime content looks like yet. Expect cosmetic tie-ins at minimum — jacket replicas, maybe a few quests riffing on the show's events — but the smart money says CDPR saved at least one surprise for the stream. The last time this studio tied an update to Edgerunners, it worked so well the game sold another few million copies.
Dual-wielding and cyberware customization: the two real teases
Beyond the anime content, the announcement named two systems changes, and both are the kind of thing that rewrites builds. First: cyberware customization. Second: a new dual-wielding playstyle.
Cyberware customization is the more intriguing of the two. Right now, your chrome is basically a shopping list — ripperdoc visits, fixed stat blocks, done. Customization suggests we will finally be able to tune the implants we already own, whether that means visual flair, new behavior tweaks, or both. Imagine recolored mantis blades with altered attack patterns, or gorilla arms tuned for different crowd-control effects. For a game where build identity is half the fun, this is a big deal.
Dual-wielding speaks for itself. Two guns at once is the kind of power fantasy Night City has always promised, and the fact that CDPR calls it a 'playstyle' rather than a weapon suggests animations, perks, and probably a few balancing headaches to go with it.
- Cyberware customization: tune the implants you own
- Dual-wielding playstyle: a new way to fight, not just a new weapon
- Anime-related content: Edgerunners 2 tie-ins
- Plus 'a number of other new items and features,' per the announcement
The announcement even came with original artwork commissioned for the occasion — pieces by Taisei Uchida (art), Yukiko Kakita (ink and paint check), and Yuichiro Tozawa (special effects). When a studio hires anime industry talent to draw its patch announcement, you can tell it is taking the tie-in seriously.
When and where to watch the REDstreams reveal
The full reveal happens October 21 on REDstreams, CDPR's own broadcast format, with official patch notes landing the same day. Times:
- 5 PM CEST / 6 PM EEST (Europe)
- 4 PM BST (UK/Ireland)

- Streaming on Twitch, YouTube, and Steam
The patch itself goes live the next day, October 22, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Why this update is worth caring about
Here is the honest read: free, meaningful content for a 2020 single-player game in late 2026 is absurd generosity, and it keeps happening because players keep showing up. Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 40 million copies, and every major update drags lapsed players back into Night City — which is exactly why the one-month countdown to GTA VI has not killed interest in older open worlds.
If you play on PC, this is also a decent excuse to see what modern hardware does with the game — the new wave of RTX Spark laptops just started shipping, and Cyberpunk remains the unofficial benchmark for 'can your machine actually handle ray tracing.' But even on a base PS5, dual-wielding through Watson sounds like a great October weekend. Watch the stream tomorrow, then clear some hard drive space.
