Saros Zenith Update Goes Live Today: Free New Game+, Boss Rush, and 12 Story Visions on PS5

Source: PlayStation
Housemarque just shipped the biggest free update Saros has seen since its April launch. The Saros Zenith update is out today on PS5 for every owner at no extra cost — a 3.5GB download that bumps the game to version 2.0 and packs in a boss-rush gauntlet, a full New Game+ mode, 20 new modifiers, a dozen new story collectibles, and the accessibility options players have been asking for since day one.
Overlord Rush Is the Headliner
Housemarque first showed Zenith at September's State of Play, and Overlord Rush was the bit that got people talking. It's a boss gauntlet built for players who already know Carcosa's Overlords inside out. You pick from three sets: the Incursion Set and the Ascension Set each line up three Overlords and take around ten minutes to clear, while the Totality Set throws all eight Carcosan Overlords at you back-to-back with no breaks to catch your breath. Integrated leaderboards track your best runs globally, and you can filter them by main weapon — so there's finally a definitive answer to who's the best with each gun.
Eclipse Layers: the Saros Zenith Update's Take on New Game+
Then there's Eclipse Layers, Saros' version of New Game+. After clearing the campaign, you can dive back into a more intense Carcosa with altered rules — but there's a catch. Accessing Eclipse Layers requires equipping Carcosan Modifiers, and each layer demands a minimum threshold of Trial Modifiers, so the game gets meaner in direct proportion to how much you handicap yourself. Twenty-five Trials unlock as you progress, and stacking modifiers earns you a Crowned Eclipse, with Arjun's crown growing visibly more elaborate the more trials you pile on. It's a neat visual flex: anyone watching your stream can see exactly how deep in the hole you are. Twelve new collectible Visions — murals and messages from an ancient king — are hidden across the planet for lore hunters, and new nodes in the armour matrix unlock each successive Eclipse Layer.
20 New Modifiers, New Trophies, New Toys
To feed the modifier-hungry Eclipse Layers system, Housemarque added 20 new Carcosan Modifiers: 10 Protection Modifiers and 10 Trial Modifiers, bringing the total roster to 50. One standout turns built-up Corruption into a single heavy melee hit instead of letting it eat your max Integrity — the kind of trade-off that will spawn a hundred build arguments. New trophies tied to the Zenith content are in too, for the hunters who still have a list to finish.
Slow Game Speed Is the Real Story
The flashiest additions are for veterans, but the most important ones are for everyone else. Slow Game Speed doesn't touch the bullet patterns — it slows the whole game down so you get more time to read telegraphs, watch bullets fly, and pick your response. You control how much it slows and whether it kicks in automatically during combat or only when you toggle it manually. Auto-fire shoots whenever your weapon points at a hostile (reloads stay manual, so perfect reloads still matter), Motion Sensor Aiming adds DualSense gyro controls, and there's a high-contrast display option on top of the existing button remapping. Design lead Abebe Tinari said the team had two goals: give veterans replayability, and make the game welcoming enough that more players can experience what made Saros one of the highest-rated action games of 2026. It's not the only free update worth your evening this week — THE FINALS just got its biggest destruction overhaul yet with Season 12 'Prime Time' — but it's the most generous one.
Should You Jump Back In?
If you bounced off Saros in April, this is the excuse to come back. The game launched to an 87 on Metacritic and a 91% OpenCritic recommendation rate, and VGC gave it five stars, calling it one of PS5's most memorable first-party games — but its sales reportedly never matched Returnal's, partly because it's PS5-only at a time when Sony is pulling back from PC ports. The game is also $20 off on the PlayStation Store until October 22, which makes this the cheapest on-ramp it has ever had. October's been stacked for PS5 players — our Hellraiser: Revival review covers the month's other big genre release — and Zenith makes a strong case that Saros deserves a second look. And if you're the type who never left, Totality is waiting.
