AION 2 Beginner Guide: 11 Things to Know Before You Push to Level 45

Source: NC (Steam)

AION 2 is the biggest MMO launch of the year and it is not particularly interested in explaining itself. NC's free-to-play sequel hit Steam and the PURPLE launcher on October 5, peaked near 397,000 concurrent players, and promptly buried new Daevas under a mountain of systems — Odyle Energy, enhancement stones, Ascension Gauges, Sealed Dungeons — with a tutorial that covers maybe half of them.

This AION 2 beginner guide is the stuff the game doesn't tell you. Not the basics — the expensive mistakes that cost you weeks of progression if you make them in your first ten hours.

AION 2 Beginner Guide: The Short Version

Follow the yellow Episode Quests. Don't spend Odyle Energy or enhancement stones while leveling. Pick your class for the playstyle you enjoy, not a launch-week tier list. Join a Legion early. Save Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds for level 45. That's 80% of it — the rest is below.

1. Follow the Yellow Brick Road

Your fastest route to max level is the Episode Quest line — the yellow-marked main story in your journal. When it stalls and demands you fill your Ascension Gauge to 100%, don't panic: run regional quests or clear the question marks on your map. Both feed the gauge. Side-tracking efficiently beats wandering.

2. Don't Touch Odyle Energy Until 45

Odyle Energy unlocks around level 22 and looks like free dungeon loot fuel. It isn't. The stuff replenishes slowly (capped at 560 for free players, 840 for members), and every dungeon chest you open while leveling burns it on gear that will be worthless ten levels later. Skip the chests, finish the dungeon, and hoard every point for max-level content where the rewards actually matter.

3. Enhancement Stones Are Sacred

The game starts prompting you to enhance gear almost immediately. Ignore it. Enhancement stones are one of the scarcest resources in AION 2, and spending them on leveling gear is the single most common beginner mistake. Rule of thumb: don't enhance anything you plan to replace — and while leveling, you plan to replace everything. Wait until you hold a piece you'll actually keep.

4. Pick a Class Like You'll Marry It

There are eight classes, and launch-week tier lists are already out of date — NC has been tuning balance aggressively. Pick for the role and workload you enjoy (melee brawler, ranged nuker, healer, tank), because rerolling at level 40 costs you days. The budget 1440p PC build crowd will be fine performance-wise; the minimum spec is a GTX 1660 with 16GB RAM and 50-70GB of SSD space, so most gaming rigs from the last five years can run it.

5. Join a Legion Before You Need One

Even if you're here for the PvE, join an active Legion in your first week. Group finder, dungeon carries, mechanic explanations, Abyss runs — everything in AION 2's endgame is easier with a guild tag. Solo players hit a wall around the mid-40s that Legion members walk straight through.

6. Manage Your Wings

Flight is core to AION 2, not a gimmick — aerial combat, field bosses, the works. Running out of flight resources in a dangerous zone turns a routine trip into a corpse run. Learn what drains your flight time and what restores it before you go exploring the far corners of Reshanta.

7. Save the Good Dungeons for 45

Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds scale, which makes them tempting early. Resist. Clear them once for the experience, then save your serious runs for level 45 when the loot tables are worth your time and your Odyle Energy. Same logic as the enhancement rule: don't spend permanent resources on temporary levels.

8. Dismantle, Don't Vendor

Old gear isn't vendor trash — it's crafting material. Dismantle outdated equipment for the components you'll need later instead of selling it for pocket change. Your future self, staring at a crafting bill, will thank you.

9. Membership Is Optional (Mostly)

The $15/month membership unlocks the Kinah Exchange and extra market slots. It's genuinely useful for traders and crafters, and irrelevant for everyone else until endgame. The base game — all story content, all classes — is fully free. Don't let anyone tell you it's pay-to-win before you've played 50 hours; the loudest complaints on Steam (the game sits around 59% positive, mostly over monetization gripes) come from the economy layer, not the leveling game.

10. Pick Your Launcher Deliberately

Steam and PURPLE serve the same game but different server regions. If you're in Southeast or East Asia, PURPLE usually means better ping on Asian servers. Check which regions your friends are on before you commit — server transfers in MMOs are never as painless as promised.

11. Ignore the 'Free Mount' Pages

One last thing: aggregator sites promising exclusive mounts for 'pre-registering' are marketing filler. NC never ran a global pre-registration reward campaign. If a site asks for your details in exchange for launch goodies, close the tab.
