Strengths

Weaknesses

If you're planning a high-end GPU purchase this month, read this first: the October 2026 GPU market is not sane, and the RTX 5090 is the most extreme example.

The numbers are dizzying

3DCenter data tracking German retail from November 2025 to October 2026:

Card Nov 2025 Oct 2026 Change
RTX 5090 €2,600–2,900 €6,000–6,800 +132%
RTX 5080 €1,000–1,140 €1,540–1,650 +51%
RTX 5070 Ti €740–830 €1,200–1,290 +60%
RTX 5070 €520–560 €800–900 +56%
RTX 5060 Ti 16GB €410–450 €680–850 +74%

The RTX 50 lineup is up 66% on average in a year. In the US market, the RTX 5090 is tracked at $6,500–9,500 — against a $1,999 launch MSRP. First-party retail stock is effectively gone.

Why is this happening?

Three factors stacked up:

  1. Reported production end. Hardware leakers (MEGAsizeGPU, hongxing2020) claim Nvidia is ending RTX 5090 output and redirecting the GB202 die to the RTX Pro 6000 — priced around $16,000 vs $1,999. Per wafer, each GB202 makes vastly more money as a professional card. Nvidia hasn't confirmed it, but the market is reacting as if it's true.
  2. Memory crisis. GDDR7 prices surged, and TSMC is reportedly raising manufacturing prices ~10% in Q4 2026.
  3. Relentless AI demand. Every compute-capable GPU gets absorbed by the professional market first.

RTX 5080 24GB: Q1 2027 hope?

Leaks point to Nvidia preparing an RTX 5080 24GB (using denser 3GB GDDR7 modules) as the replacement consumer flagship — estimated Q1 2027, in the $1,499–2,999 range. Unconfirmed, but it's the card worth waiting for if you're eyeing the high end.

So: buy or wait?

Don't buy an RTX 5090 right now. Full stop. Paying 3–4x MSRP for a card whose production is (reportedly) ending is a bad financial decision, no matter how much you want the frames.

What makes sense right now: - Need a GPU now, mid-range budget: look at AMD's Radeon RX 9000 — up "only" 48%, relatively better value. Or the trusted used market. - Can wait 3–6 months: hold. The RTX 5080 24GB (Q1 2027) and a potential post-rumor price correction could reshape everything. - Playing 1080p/esports: an RTX 5050 or entry-level Radeon is enough and least affected by inflation.

The 2026 GPU market punishes impulse buyers and rewards the patient. Be patient.
